Culture
Where identity, heritage, and belonging come alive through movement, language, and community.
Culture at Kinet Bet is about connection — to our heritage, to one another, and to the stories that shape who we are. We create spaces where people can learn, express, and celebrate identity through movement, language, community gatherings, and creative exploration. Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots, building cross-cultural understanding, or raising children in the diaspora, our culture-based offerings bring people together in meaningful, joyful ways.
Cultural Movement Workshops
Our movement workshops use Ethiopian dance as a pathway to cultural learning, self-expression, and community connection. Workshops include historical context, storytelling, and accessible movement practices rooted in Ethiopia’s diverse regions. Sessions are offered for children, teens, and adults — and are open to all backgrounds.
Amharic Foundations for Families
Designed for diaspora families, these sessions teach basic Amharic language, cultural etiquette, songs, and everyday vocabulary. This is a family-centered learning space that strengthens cultural identity, supports parents raising multilingual children, and helps non-Ethiopian caregivers and partners feel more connected.
Diaspora Identity & Belonging Sessions
These sessions explore what it means to grow up or raise children in the Ethiopian diaspora. Through conversation, storytelling, and guided reflection, we help families and individuals navigate identity, belonging, and cultural pride while embracing the richness of multicultural life.
Heritage-Centered Community Gatherings
Our community events bring people together through shared cultural experiences. Gatherings may include art and culture nights, traditional game nights, book and music showcases, film screenings, and intergenerational conversations. These monthly or seasonal gatherings build community among Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopian culture across the DMV and beyond.
